should i get a new hockey stick?
well i haD 2 sticks but one of them cracked pretty badly..so now the only one i have left is ok i guess..but when i stand even without the skates its just below my chin..and its wooden and very stiff..do u think i should go out and get a new stick? If so, are there any that you would reccomend that are affordable..cuz i dont wanna buy one thats 90 dollars..i just want a good non-wooden one that isnt so stiff.
well i wont be playing for a couple months with my broken bone..but usually i play once or twice a week but im planning on playing more often
i dont play on a school team..i play on a boys team at the local ice rink
A shorter stick might be fine for your style of play, it all depends. If you keep your stick close in to your body, do a lot of stickhandling and don't rely on it for reach - for example the way you might if you played a lot of D - it may be just fine.
You should be able to bend it a little. Are you using senior sticks, junior or intermediate sticks? How big are you?
I'm 5'4", and I switched to intermediate sticks for a while because every senior stick I bought and cut down to fit me immediately became too stiff.
I like wood sticks. Stiffness has to do with the flex, not what the stick's made out of. Right now I use a Sher-wood 5030 Featherlite, costs about $30. It's a senior stick, but still has enough flex for me, even cut down.
Go to a large store with a good selection of sticks, and try a bunch out. Test out some intermediate sticks, and some junior sticks, see how the flex and size of the shaft feels. The thing about the intermediate stick for me is that it's smaller, while the blade size is still the same as a senior blade (juinor sticks have smaller blades). It's nice, with the intermediate stick, to be able to get my small hands completely around it.
In terms of the length, check the lie... when your stick is on the ice, the blade should contact the ice all along its length, and not just at the heel or toe.
You shouldn't have to spend more than $40 on a stick, if you just play for fun. No reason to.
Good luck.
