is this hockey stick even better than my last one?
my former hockey stick was a Easton Synergy SC (cant remember the number) with a flex of 65 and 495 g, my new stick is a Easton Synergy Elite SE6 also with a flex of 65, its about an inch longer and 500g. i felt like it was a big improvement at first but now i'm not sure. do the facts say my new one is better, or was it just a waste of money?
As much as I'd like to be able to tell you what kind of stick you should use, I can't. You have to make that determination. If the stick you are currently using doesn't feel as good as your old one, switch back to the old one. Why not? Maybe you don't have it anymore.... That's too bad. Get another one, I guess.
On the other hand, you may just need to cut the end off an inch and it may be just like your other one. Sticks these days are made just about the same. Especially ones made by the same manufacturer like Easton. I have used Easton stick for many years. They have always been a reliable, good quality stick.
Another take on this is a lot of people will say that it is not the stick, but the user....... I kind of agree to a point. If the user doesn't think the stick feels "right" they will never be able to use the stick because your perception is your reality.... If you believe the stick sucks, it sucks. If you think it is the greatest stick you have ever used, it will be! My point is that YOU have to feel comfortable with your equipment. You can't be thinking about how your stick feels to you in the middle of a shift, or you will be distracted. Even if it is only a slight distraction, at the pace this game moves, you will be out of the play in no time. Or you will make a bad shot because your mind has already told you the stick sucks.
You said it felt like it was a big improvement at first. What changed? Why are you now second guessing those feelings? Just wondering...
Hey, try this, before you play next time, listen to your favorite pump-you-up music. Try to put all outside distractions and everyday concerns out of your mind and visualize yourself playing the perfect game. Anticipate moves, passes and see yourself being in the right place at the right time. Don't worry about anything, don't think about anything. Go out there, read, react and see what kind of game you have....
I do hope you get things figured out.
Steve.
