what if you DON"T bake thermoformable skates?

I'm thinking of buying some Nike Bauer Supreme 70 senior hockey skates online. I know Bauers usually fit my somewhat narrow foot so I feel okay buying them online. However, in a previous posting I did about this skate, somebody informed me this skate is "bakeable". This person also informed me that baking should not be done at home because it doesn't always turn out right. If I buy these skates online and take them to a hockey store to get them baked they might not be thrilled to do so since I didn't buy them there, or if they do, they might charge me a lot I'm thinking. So my question is: if I buy these skates and don't bake them at all, will they still fit as well as if they're baked? Will the heat from my foot when I use them over time do something similar to what the baking process would do more quickly?

All that baking does is decrease the "break-in" period. It is thought that a baked skate will be "broken-in" in about half the time. Assuming you've skated in new skates before, you know that they can sometimes be a little painful at first. Baking is meant to decrease this. However, once the skate is broken-in... there is no difference whatsoever if it was baked or not. Baking won't make it fit BETTER than not baking... it just makes them fit SOONER.

But, as the first answerer said, you should be able to get it done for about $25-30. Trust me, they will be more than happy to charge you $30 to put your skates in a "skate oven" for 6 minutes. Just remember, by the time you pay for baking (if you do it) and sharpening, it is often cheaper to just buy them at a store. Just because the skate itself is cheaper online, doesn't mean the final cost will be, as well. Just do some research.
