How to be a goalie for ringette?
How to be a goalie for ringette?
k im a girl and a guy at school inspired me to play. so like i live in canada and i only have 170 dollars iv been saving and im thinking of buying the cheap used stuff or start of with crapy stuff for street hockey. like the simple stuff. i have a really good net and goalie stick already. also i have a rink out side close to me. but the guys play puck. so any ideas on equipment and where to play to get better? thanks
If you have ever played ice hockey, well it's pretty much the same thing being the goalie. The only thing is that equipment is a little different (stick, ring, etc).
Basic goalie equipment:
Mask
Neck protector
Chest protector
Trapper
Blocker
Stick
Pads
Skates (goalie skates preferably)
Jill
Hockey pants
Throat protector (optional)
Knee protector (optional)
With 170$, you might have a hard time finding used ice hockey equipment. The goalie has the most expensive equipment. My ball hockey equipment cost me about 500$, and ice hockey is even more expensive. Depending on the brand of the pads, how old they are and their condition, you will able to find used ones for about 200-300$ online or from a sports store that sells used equipment.
Another thing that you can do is to borrow equipment from a sports store or a friend. It's about 60$ a day.
Or you can buy the equipment piece by piece as you accumulate cash and borrowing the rest.
Buying street equipment for ringette is not a good idea. Materials is street equipment is not made for ringette or ice hockey, because they are cheaper. You said your friends would use a puck so, otherwise, you could break your equipment or get injured. If you're playing on a team, ringette has specification rules about the equipment, so you couldn't use them anyway. In that case, try contacting your league to know the specifications. Like the mask cage has to be made in a particular shape for ringette stick to not go through.
If playing with your friends you could use it at limit, but with a sponge puck or something..
Playing with your friends as much as you can will help you get better. As we all know, practice makes perfect.. Being fit will help your endurance. Legs training will make your butterfly easier and your legs stronger. Throwing a ball on a the wall then re catch it is a good way to improve hand-eye coordination. Also, your angles and your balance are important in goaltending. But all these stuff are learned as you gain experience.
Attending skates lessons if you need them could help. Is there are hockey activities at your school or a sports center, you could subcribe it would give your more practises. If you have money, going to a goalie training school will definitely help. Try searching them online.
Hope I helped, good luck!
