Can a forward use goalie skates during a game?
I'm an ice hockey goaltender in the HS level and tomorrow I have a game against a non-threatening team. We've decided to let the backup goaltender who normally plays defense play in net tomorrow instead of me for practice. This would let me play out, you know, for the heck of it. I was wondering if it's legal according to USA Hockey Rules for me to use my goalie skates to play forward. I know the disadvantages etc...and I have forward skates but they're in not so good shape, might injure my feet, and I can't skate as well on them. This is just a whim but I'm curious if the refs will call me out for an equipment infraction or something.
Any answers?
NO! USA hockey rules say that a player other than a goaltender is not allowed to wear goaltender's skates because they do not provide adequate protection in the ankle. Borrow a pair.
Thanks Habs fan...
