Roller to Ice hockey?
I'm a goalie and I just started playing ice hockey.
On roller I'd say im pretty good I led my AAA Midget League in Save Percent. I now play for an Adult Hockey team just to get adjusted to ice then hopefully can transfer to a Junior League.
It's so difficult for me to get adjusted with ice, I can still stop shots but when it comes to moving side to side it's hard for me to stop a breakaway because I slide too far.
Plus my butterfly isn't as great and its hard for me to drop and get up quickly.
I figure its just cause the grip on my pads have been worn out on roller and its hard on ice.
I'm not sure, I just need some tips on how to get better adjusted.
You will transition naturally after a while, so don't worry about it too much.
To help speed up that process, there are a few simple things you can start doing.
First, when you get on the ice, it has usually been zam'ed so the ice will be slick in your crease area. Rough it up but sliding your skates back and forth across the crease. By cutting up the surface, and creating a bit of snow, you will increase the amount of grip you have on the ice.
Before facing any shots, or breakaways, get used to the ice a bit. Slide around post to post a few times. Then do forwards skating, and backwards sliding pretending there is a shooter coming in on you. Slide to either post, get up, and T-push to the other post. Develop a routine to help you out at the start of each game.
Then have yoour guys start the warm-ups with shots from the outside to warm you up. Not to try to score on you at first, but to get you into it. Then after a couple of rounds of plain shots, then have them try to score from the outside. If you have time, then have a break in drill.
