What to expect in getting new ice hockey skates?
Do I have to sharpen them?
I'm getting Bauer Vapor 05 from Dicks.
How much willl it cost to sharpen them?
I'm new to ice skating.
It depends on where you go. Most skate shops charge between $5-$10 for hockey skates but it isn't unusual for it to be around $20-$25 for a new pair. New skates need more work because the sharpener will have to adjust the hollow of the blade to better suit the ice surface. Factory sharpenings are pretty much worthless.
With new hockey skates, I'd definitely recommend heat molding them once. You're feet will be much happier. Make sure you tie the laces nice and tight. Wrapping the laces around your ankle is acceptable as hockey skates have very little ankle support. Be careful about leaning forwards and backwards as the blade is curved on both ends and it is easy to fall if you don't stay balanced.
