Goalie Cut Hockey

Looking for floor hockey goalie tips/pointers?

I play floor hockey for fun once a week with a bunch of guys and I love playing in net. I'm not the fittest of people but I can handle 2 hours in the net. I'm pretty good for the most part but would like to try learn some more to help me keep the ball out of the net.

Does anyone know any websites that have training exercises or tips to help cut down angles or pointers on how to be a better goalie?

I played floor hockey for years as a Goalie. I didn't start playing hockey until I was 16 either so I never learned the proper way to play but I can tell you what I did.

1. Start by getting your angles. Line up something in the place where you are playing on both sides of the net. This will help with not over or under compensating.

2. STRETCH.....trust me you need to be flexible and you won't believe some of the things your body will do when your making a save. I damn near tore my groin one day, but I made the save.

3. I watched alot of hockey on TV, mainly Andy Moog when he was with the Bruins. If you watch enough of it you start to learn different little things and before you know it, your doing them when your playing.

4. Play catch with your Goalie Glove and really break it in. Have your teammates shoot on you before the game and try to find time during the week to have someone just rifle shots on you.

5. Just be instinctive. A good goalie needs to know what's going to happen before it happens. Wacth the play ALWAYS. Also, be the quarterback out there and be vocal. Yell at your Defenseman, tell them they are screening you or to get the fat guy from the other team that is screening you the hell out of the way. On a 2 on 1 take the shooter and make sure your D'man takes the passing lane.

Hope this helps a little. I'm no pro, but I was pretty damn good for a kid who didn't start playing until he was 16, with no training at all, and now I'm 35!! GOOD LUCK and have fun.
